Have you recently done something new to better your health, such as joining a gym and/or start exercising regularly?  Or maybe you have gone through a course of therapy to address an issue. GOOD FOR YOU!!  Have you met your workout goal yet?  Whether it took you a week to accomplish a goal or several months, you should reward yourself for achieving your goal.  Exercise incentives!

Have Goals

So, why is it important to set goals?  We know that goal setting greatly increases our consistency with changing our behaviors in order to establish a new healthy habit.  Goals help guide our focus, and the reward for accomplishing a goal gives us something to look forward to.  Setting goals with rewards can also provide motivation to continue with our healthy habits.  So…make note of each of your accomplishments and reward yourself!  Rewards can be healthy or not, it’s up to you.  Here are some examples – chose which one(s) would be the most motivating for you.

  • Take a day off
  • Create an at-home spa treatment
  • Cook or bake a new healthy dish
  • Host a game night
  • Learn a new sport
  • Start a new book
  • Relax outside and get some Vitamin D
  • Enjoy a massage
  • Start a journal
  • Attend a local sporting event or concert
  • Enjoy an activity with your kids
  • Get a new hair style
  • Plan a staycation
  • Get new workout gear
  • Find a new workout song

Inspiration

Use this list for inspiration to meet any type of goal.  Pick one that will motivate you to try something new and expand your horizons. The reward should be something fun that you are investing your time and energy into.

Exercise Incentives

Think of the reward as being something special for you.  Just think, you’re getting healthier just by achieving your goals!  Plus, when you reward yourself your brain elicits positive emotions to a healthier self, and rewarding yourself can help reinforce good habits.  Everyone is different so pick the reward(s) that best suits you.  So, now reflect on how hard you’ve worked to achieve your goals, and what your next goals and rewards will be!
